Ruhpolding is taking over from Kontiolahti in order to avoid Kontiolahti from having to host three big events within just 9 months in 2020, now that Kontiolahti will host the inaugural World Cup season opener in November 2020.
The competition taking place from 19-23 August 2020. Kontiolahti has a 8th event of this season, from 12-15 March 2020.

The organizers in Kontiolahti can focus fully on the World Cup events, especially on the premiere of the new season opening format, which brings quite some new tasks to the host venue. We would like to thank the German National Federation and the organizers in Ruhpolding who have agreed to take over the Championships and will certainly deliver another biathlon festival»
The main and reserve German teams never took place in Summer Championship. Maybe next year we will see someone else in leaders except Russian and Ukrainian.
