After weeks of speculation, the Swedish Biathlon Federation has officially confirmed the appointment of Finnish specialist Jonne Kähkönen as shooting coach.
He replaces the highly respected Jean-Marc Chabloz, who leaves the team after four successful years.
“I’m really looking forward to starting work with the team. It’s a great opportunity! The goal is to live up to the legacy left by Jean-Marc.
The Swedish team has been shooting very well in recent years, so the challenge is significant.”
A coach with a strong reputation
The 52-year-old arrives with an outstanding reputation. His biggest achievement was helping Lisa Vittozzi return to the top level.
He rebuilt the Italian both mentally and technically on the shooting range, guiding her to a world title and her first Big Crystal Globe after several difficult seasons.
A unique working setup
An unusual aspect of the arrangement is that Kähkönen will remain based in Finland, while the Swedish team continues to train in Östersund.
According to the new coach, balance and recovery are key factors for success:
“Balance is important. Recovery is essential for shooting.”
He joins a stable structure led by head coach Johannes Lukas.
