For the first half of the race, the leaders were in a tight group, with Germany, France and Norway crossing the race equator within three seconds. Teams of the USA (+8), Canada and Austria (+20) were unexpectedly high. Sweden, thanks to the efforts of Jesper Nelin, fell to 20th place.
And nothing changed until the 6th shooting, where only Tarjei Boe was able to shoot accurately. Fabien Claude went to a penalty loop, and Benedikt Doll - to two.
Thanks to this, Niklas Hartweg moved into second place, and Felix Leitner was already in 4th place, near to Claude. But by the end of the 3rd leg, France and Switzerland were close, and the Slovenian Jakov Fak was able to reach 4th place. Italy and Germany were already losing by 1:06 at this point.
Vetle Christiansen had no problems either prone or standing, and took Norway to another victory. No posing or bowing this time.
But the fight for the remaining two places on the podium was very interesting. First, Nawrath and Giacomel significantly reduced the gap to the Frenchman. Jeremy Finello didn't shoot the prone position very well, and also joined this pair. The three of them managed to gain almost 20 seconds from Quentin Fillon Maillet on one lap, and four of them came to the final shooting at the same time.
And this time luck smiled on the Germans. Philipp Nawrath made 5 of 5 while his opponents had to use extra rounds. Giacomel and Fillon Maillet ran just 10 seconds behind the German, but were unable to close the gap, and the Italian won the duel. Italy is third! Just like a week ago!
By the way, no one team became lapped, this happens extremely rarely, if it ever happened at all.
