But what a denouement. It's been a long time since there was such lively intrigue at individual races.
Up until the first standing, Julie Simon was in the lead. But 3rd shooting there was one miss, and then three more, which finally threw last year’s Globe winner far into the middle of the finish list.
The leaders included Dorothea Wierer, Vanessa Voigt, and even Sophie Schneider. But Wierer and Schneider made mistakes in the last shooting, and Vannessa Voigt left much less energy for the last lap and was unable to make up time on it.
And who really kept the intrigue until the end and made us worry was Franziska Preuss. The German performed rather mediocrely last year and missed most of the season.
Franziska was able to do 20 out of 20 and was going into the final lap with an 11.8-second lead. Judging by her facial expression at the finish line, she did not give it her all when she saw the loss of 0.1 seconds, but she was happy with second place!
The Germans performed very strongly. Voigt is 3rd and Schneider is 5th.
The Norwegians are without a podium today, but three are in the top 10: Knotten is one step away from the podium, Tandrevold and Johansen are 7th and 8th.
It is very unusual to see Polish women in such high places: Anna Maka and Jakela round out the top 10.
But those who have a failure today are the Swedes and the French: Linn Persson and Hanna Oeberg are in 14-15th positions, the rest are far behind. The best of the French team is Justine Brezat, 19th.
