At the first leg, Simon Eder and Justus Strelow took the lead, they, like Tyshchenko, Fak and Harjula, didn't make any mistake.
Laegreid completed the leg at a respectable distance of 11 seconds. Claude was 17 seconds behind and Samuelsson finished the first part in 17th position, 35 seconds behind the leader.
But already Juni Arnekleive and Julie Simon in one lap won back all the advantage that Hauser and Kebinger had. And if Arnekleive was a little out of breath shooting from such a chase, the Frenchwoman easily coped with all the targets and led the race.
Fantastic. Simon was losing by 17 seconds, only one lap had passed, and she was already ahead of her closest rivals - 10. Hauser and Kebinger were able to hit all the targets with only 8 attempt, and were already 25 seconds behind. Amy Baserga and Suvi Minkinnen came in second place.
And although Simon was not very accurate on the standing, France still finished the first half of the race in 1st place. Juni Arnekleive pulled closer, she was second. And Hanna Oberg jumped into third position, and the Swedes were already losing by 6 seconds! But there were 35. Half a minute behind the leader there were also representatives of Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Ukraine, Austria, the USA, Slovenia and Estonia. Everyone is nearby and ready to take advantage of the opponents’ mistakes.
But Fabien Claude is definitely not determined to win, the Frenchman managed to lose all the advantage that Simon had created, and even went into the penalty loop. Samuelsson became the race leader, with Hartweg and Laegreid losing about 7 seconds.
On the standing, Samuelsson was superb and sent Hanna into the final three laps with a 17-second lead over the Norwegians. Niklas Hartweg repeated Claude’s «feat», and Switzerland finally dropped out of the fight for victory, but not for the podium. Niklas Hartweg finished his part of the race in 5th place, 20 seconds behind Strelow and only 10 seconds behind Tyshchenko. But Fabien Claude finally buried the French hopes for a good result.
On the prone, Hanna Oeberg was able to clear the last target only on her third attempt, but Juni Arnekleive did it quickly, and the 17-second advantage was gone. Hanna Kebinger retained third place.
Polona Klemencic and Anastasia Merkushina were another 20 seconds behind the German, and Julie Simon set herself the goal of winning a medal no matter what - perfect shooting, 7th place, and 30 seconds behind the German.
The final shoot-off was won by Hanna Oberg, although she and the Norwegian made two misses each, but the Swede shot faster. And behind, in third place was Julie Simon, fantastic! Three seconds behind her, Kebinger, Klemencic and Hauser went into the last lap, but they had no chance of catching the Frenchwoman.
Just like there was no chance for Juni to catch up with Hanna. Sweden wins the first race, on home ground.
Polona Klemencic was even able to hold on for Simon, but finished the race 4th. And then, in the fight for the top 6, Baserga and Hauser dealt with Koebinger.
