The shooting problems seen earlier in the men’s pursuit did not disappear, and athletes from many different teams were sent onto the penalty loop throughout the race. By halfway, around two thirds of the field had already accumulated at least one penalty loop.
The Swedish team struggled early on, with their chances fading over the first two legs. It was not only about penalty loops: Anna Magnusson looked very slow on the track, while Anna-Karin Heijdenberg used all her spare rounds. Sweden did manage to recover later and eventually climbed back into the top six.
In terms of race dynamics, France led at halfway, with Slovakia 30 seconds behind, and Slovenia and Norway 40 seconds back. While most rivals were missing targets and skiing penalty loops, Slovenia’s Anamarija Lampic — known for her poor shooting — limited the damage. Despite losing 20 seconds on her leg, she managed to keep her team among the leaders.
Given Tommaso Giacomel’s six misses across the first three shootings in the men’s race before going on to win spectacularly, nothing could be taken for granted.
In the end, however, there was no miracle — neither against France in front, nor for Slovakia and Slovenia. France controlled the race calmly and confidently, with Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Lou Jeanmonnot sealing the victory, while the less established teams dropped out of the top six.
France also delivered the best shooting performance of the day, using just eight spare rounds and avoiding the penalty loop entirely.
The battle for second place came down to Germany and Norway. At the decisive moment, Maren Kirkeeide won her duel against Franziska Preuss, underlining once again why many believe the Norwegian has a very bright future.
Finland and Sweden both produced small comebacks. Mid-race, they were trailing by two and a half minutes and sitting in positions 12 to 14, but they eventually finished fourth and fifth — still with the same time gap, but a much stronger final result.
