The Oeberg sisters, Sebastian Samuelsson and Martin Ponsiluoma will lead Sweden’s national teams at the fourth World Cup stage, scheduled this week in Oberhof, Germany.
On Monday morning, the Swedish Biathlon Federation unveiled the list of athletes selected for the upcoming World Cup event. The announcement, however, was marked by two significant withdrawals on the women’s side.
Sweden will have to do without Ella Halvarsson and Johanna Skottheim. Both athletes fell ill during the Christmas period and were deemed not sufficiently ready to return to competition at World Cup level.
On paper, this is a serious blow, but it does not completely weaken the Swedish team. Despite these absences, the women’s squad remains impressively deep and experienced.
The team competing in Oberhof will consist of Anna-Karin Heijdenberg, Anna Magnusson, Elvira Oeberg, Sara Andersson, Hanna Oeberg and Linn Gestblom. Notably, Gestblom returns after missing the Grand-Bornand stage, adding an extra option to the team rotation.
On the men’s side, Sweden relies on a solid and well-established core. Henning Sjökvist joins Jesper Nelin, Malte Stefansson, Martin Ponsiluoma, Sebastian Samuelsson and Viktor Brandt for the Oberhof races.
