Norway Wins a Nerve-Racking Men’s Relay in Östersund

The average number of penalty loops in this race was 2–3, with teams using around 13 extra rounds. Against this chaotic backdrop, Norway handled the shooting almost better than anyone — and that’s what secured their victory.

Only Germany shot better (0+9). France, Sweden, Czech Republic, Italy, and many others each collected three penalty loops, while the Vikings finished with just 1+10.

Despite that, the fight for the win lasted all the way to the finish. On the seventh prone stage, Vetle Christiansen brought the suspense back into the race: Norway’s lead of more than a minute suddenly shrank to just 15 seconds.

But the gaps soon stabilized, and although it seemed Eric Perrot was ready to challenge for gold, it never materialized. France and Sweden reached the podium despite three penalty loops each — something that hasn’t happened in a long time.
