Sweden’s Linn Gestblom Persson, who has dealt with repeated shoulder problems and surgeries, is set to race again this weekend in Idre — her first competition since February 2024.
Her last start came at the World Championships in Nove Mesto. Shortly afterward she underwent surgery on her left shoulder, but complications persisted, leading to a second operation early the following year. That forced her to miss the entire winter season.
Recently, pain developed in her right shoulder as well, causing her to skip the national training camp in Idre. Despite this, she has decided she is ready to return.
In an interview with TT, Gestblom Persson described a comeback marked by cautious optimism: “I hope I’ll have enough time to train properly before the season begins. But I don’t think this comeback is premature.”
She admits that some uncertainty always accompanies the start of a new year: “It’s the same every season — a bit uncertain. But that’s part of the charm.”
