Despite double representation of German athletes in each race, not a single one managed to reach the top 3.
In the women’s race, a beautiful battle unfolded between Milena Todorova, Lotte Lie, and Karoline Knotten. The Bulgarian was leading on the last lap, and it seemed that on the final narrow section of this track it was almost impossible to let herself be overtaken. But Milena, being almost too gentlemanly, pressed into the inner radius on the last turn, which allowed first the Belgian and right after her the Norwegian to slip through.
Knotten made a powerful finishing sprint, but she was just a couple of centimeters short of victory, so 1st place went to Lotte Lie.

The men’s mass start turned into a real circus. One could say that Éric Perrot gave a lesson to Quentin Fillon Maillet, except that the latter is actually much older.
In short, Quentin was leading on the last lap and entered the final turn with about a 5-second advantage. He began to celebrate, looked back, saw (or didn’t see) Perrot, and continued casually gliding toward the finish. About 20 meters before the line, he realized that Éric was closing in far too quickly. He tried to sprint too, but lost.
Jakov Fak finished third.
