With the long absence of Lisa Vittozzi and despite the efforts of Dorothea Wierer, the young generation of Italian biathlon has not lived up to expectations in the first two World Cups.
Except for Wierer, no Italian woman is in the top 25 in the overall World Cup standings, and the same is true for the men: only Tommaso Giacomel is in 15th place.
So Rebecca Passler, Beatrice Trabucci, Elia Zeni and Patrick Braunhofer wount go to Annecy, and the Italians will not take anyone from the IBU Cup, so they will go to France with nine biathletes. Although they could try Marco Barale and Nicola Romanin - these two have consistently made it into the top 20.
