Yesterday, halfway through the last lap, Julia Simon grabbed her left calf in pain while fighting for the lead with Elvira Oberg. She somehow made it to the finish.
After the race, it turned out that she had been having pain since the second lap, and at the end of the ":Lahti Wall", she had overexerted herself.
«I don't know if it's a cramp, but we'll see. Let's wait until the pain subsides and then go to the hospital for diagnostics. I felt pain already on the second lap, but up until now I had been keeping up well. In fact, the last climb is very steep, and we have to stand so hard on the front of the skis that the calves are very tense. I couldn't stand it anymore, and it was getting too painful.»
The head of the French team said that Julia is already feeling much better and will have an MRI in Joensuu (Finland) today.
