The mass start was held on the second and final day of the Norwegian Summer Biathlon Championships. Johan-Olav Botn was again successful, finishing on the top step of the podium once again after a brilliant performance in the sprint yesterday.
Despite a couple of mistakes on the shooting range, the 25-year-old was in great shape on roller skis, finishing the race with a result of 34:16, with a 40-second advantage over Martin Uldal (Espen Uldahl's younger brother, who took bronze yesterday), who won the silver medal.
Vebjørn Sørum took second place yesterday, and today, due to four misses, he was only fighting for third place, and succeeded in this.
Better than yesterday, but still not on the podium was Tarjei Bø, who was close to the medals, but missed twice in the final standing, and finished 7th. But perhaps this is fair, considering that Bø, shooting at 0 each time, went out on the track alone, and each time he was caught and overtaken by his rivals. Nevland, Fray and Aspenes were also ahead of Bø.
Other big names of the team also are definitely not in the best shape: 18th place goes to Sturla Lægreid with 4 mistakes and a gap of 2:23 from the leader and 22nd place goes to Johannes Dale, also with 4 misses.
Karolina Notten, also dominating the Norwegian Summer Championships in Lillehammer, her second victory.
On her home track, the 29-year-old athlete made two mistakes: one each in the prone and standing, but demonstrated excellent physical condition and great composure.
The battle for the podium was behind her, and here again Ragnhild Femsteinevik emerged as the best among the rest.
Third place is a small consolation for Ingrid Tandrevold, who, gritting her teeth and not even close to being in the best shape, fought for the victory until the last shooting, but missed at the decisive moment. However, Emilie Kalkenberg and Eline Grue didn't cherish hopes for bronze for long, as Ingrid quickly drove them away from the last medal.
