Almost all athletes had problems with shooting in this race, and Estonian Rene Zahkna seemed to do something unimaginable - by the approach to the final shooting, he made 15 out of 15, and was winning more than 30 seconds over his closest pursuer.
But three misses in the standing position - a death sentence? No, the pursuers were not perfect either. Jonas Marecek and Andrejs Rastorguevs also went to wind up two penalty laps, and the Estonian retained the lead and still won to the delight of the local crowd. But Emilien Claude didn't cope with the final shooting at all, the Frenchman had 4 misses and no chance of the podium.
Rastorguevs finally got a medal, but not the one he came for - only bronze.
