After the first shooting, Arnekleiv and Jeanmonnot were about to get ahead. But Anamarija Lampich dispersed the chasing group, and eventually reduced the gap from 10 seconds to 2. However, already in the standing the Slovenian was unlucky, and earned 3 penalty loops, nothing surprising.
Well, the first seven fit into 10 seconds: Magnusson, Arnekleiv, Jeanmonnot, Comola, Minkkinen, Grotian and Haecki-Gross.
In the first prone, the men had an incredible number of misses. Only Strelow and Invenius managed five rounds. Christiansen, Samuelsson and Jacquelin barely managed to cope, but the Swiss Hartweg suffered two penalties.
The German and Finn at the beginning of the lap gained 17 seconds over Christiansen and 21 over Samuelsson. But even before reaching the stadium, the Norwegian had already caught up with them, incredible! Gain 17 seconds in one and a half kilometers! And he did 5 out of 5 on the standing. However, Strelow and Invenius did not hesitate too much, and passed the relay 7-8 seconds behind. The Swedes were 20 seconds behind, the Italians were 30 seconds behind. The Latvians in 6th place were already losing for 42 seconds.
After prone, Arnekleive retained first place, but Suvi Minkinnen moved closer to her. Selina Grotian failed to cope with the shooting and received two penalty loops, moving all the way to 10th place. Magnusson lost 17. And it was already 25 seconds before the next athlete, Comola.
But Arnekleiv didn’t have a very good beginning on the standing, and ended up going to the penalty loop. And Suvi Minkkinen passed the leg first. However, the Swedes were only 4 seconds behind, and the Norwegians were 11. Lena Hekki-Gross did what she could and finished her stage 30 seconds behind the leader.
Chrisiansen easily caught up with the Swede and Finn, and after the perfect shooting, he also came out as the leader! Invenius had to use two extra rounds, and he was behind by 11. However, the Norwegian and Swede decided not to run to the limit of their capabilities, so Invenius even reduced the gap.
But both managed, and the Swede left even 4 seconds ahead of the Norwegian. Christiansen didn't reduce any second from Samuelsson during the entire lap, but on the final descent he noticeably approached him, and in the last hill he was already breathing down his neck. And at the finish line there were gifts from Samuelsson, there’s no other way to describe it. It seems that the Swede put too much faith in the glide of his skis. Photo finish, and the Norwegians take gold!
Finn Otto Nivenius retained third place, and this is the Finns' first medal in a very long time.
