Pokljuka is one of the best known Slovenian plateaus, as it holds world-famous biathlon competitions. The plateau is mostly forested; the Šijec peat bog is interesting for its great ecological significance and providing shelter to many animals and plants.
Pokljuka is a forested high karst plateau in the Julian Alps. It is the largest closed forest area in the Triglav National Park. It is 20 km long and almost as wide. In a span from 1000 to 1400 m there are around 6300 ha of forests, in which spruce prevails.
In Pokljuka are held just competition. All teams and fans living in Bled, small city 5km away. Usually, Pokljuka don't open the World Cup, but anyway, Slovenian stage is permanent participant of prestigious championship. For the last 5 years, Pokljuka hosted competitions all 5 times.
Maybe, Slovenian team is not powerful, and it has just one top-athlete: Jakov Fak. But the last victory for Jakov was 3 years ago - Mass-Start Lahti 2015. Slovenian team has an average men's team - last 2 seasons, they were higher than a 10th place just once. And they have big trouble with women's team. Gregorin has left. Now Slovenia has just 2 biathlete - Poe and Erzhen.
